H.H Holmes was born Herman Webster Mudgett in the small town of Gilmanton, New Hampshire May 16th, 1861. He was found guilty of murder and sentenced to be executed by hanging May 7th, 1896 at the age of 34 in Philadelphia, Pa. The hanging took place at the Moyamensing Prison.
He attended University of Michigan and was the first serial killer ever to finish college. He had a great passion to work with the cadavers while in college which concerned the teachers there.
In his early life his father Levi Horton Mudgett was just an ordinary farmer but also a violent drunk.
In school he excelled which led to bullying by his classmates out of their jealousy of him. They even forced hin into a doctor’s office where there was a human skeleton and made him come face to face with it. They even put the skeleton’s hands on his face. He was very frightened when they did this.
H.H Holmes had many convictions which included……….
4 counts of murder in the first degree
6 counts of attempted murder
There were 9-200 victims
27 he confessed to
up to 200 estimated
This was in the span from 1888?-1894
These took place in both the United States and Canada
Chicago, Illinois……Irvington, Indiana and Philadelphia, Pa
Toronto and Ontario Canada
He was apprehended in Boston, Ma November 17th, 1894
H.H.Holmes is only one of the many aliases he has as the first serial killer in America.

In 1893 there was what they called the Columbian Exposition where he lured many people into his Murder Castle where they became his victims.
Before the exposition he had taken over a pharmacy where the owner mysteriously disappeared. He built a beautiful hotel there which was actually a big maze that became a death trap.

After he was sentenced to death he had a request to be buried 10 feet down encased in concrete so grave robbers wouldn’t dig his body up. His request was granted.
Hearst Newspapers paid him 7500 dollars for his confession.
